SPHS Girls Soccer Mission

To have a fun and rewarding experience learning and playing the sport of soccer. SPHS Girls Soccer players will continually develop as student athletes and will try to reach their full potential as a high school athletic team.

Note: It is important for parents, players, and us, as a coaching staff to fully comprehend the significance of this mission statement. It will be the standard by which the success of our program is measured.

SPHS Girls Soccer Team Goals:
  • To maintain a 3.5 team GPA
  • To be prepared for and competitive in EVERY match!
  • To compete for the County Championship
  • To compete for the 3A South Regional title.
  • To Compete for the 3A Maryland State Championship
What will it take to accomplish these goals?
Effort
- Players will be expected to give their maximum effort in all that they do.
Attitude - Have a positive outlook toward your teammates, opponents, and the sport of soccer.
Commitment - Players must stay committed to their academics, the team, and the sport of soccer.

Player Policies

The following will be in addition to any Anne Arundel County and/or Severna Park High School student athlete policies:

  • All training sessions are mandatory. If a training session is to begin at 2:30p.m., it will begin at 2:30 p.m. If a training session or match is to be missed, a coach MUST be notified!
  • During training, the performance of each player has an impact on the overall performance of the team. Therefore all players, starters and reserves, will be expected to give maximum effort during training sessions.
  • When a coach speaks - LISTEN!; When other players have something to say - LISTEN!
  • All players will be prepared with the proper attire and equipment to participate in training and/or matches. Players not properly prepared will not train or play.
  • As a member of the SPHS Girls Soccer program you have accepted the responsibility to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner on and off the field. Remember, as a player you will always be a representative of the SPHS Girls Soccer program.
  • Only positive comments towards teammates, opponents, officials, coaches, and spectators will be tolerated.

Improve Your Chances to Make the Team

Evaluation
The coaching staff will evaluate candidates during the first week of training. The evaluation will include your technical soccer ability, tactical understanding of the game, fitness level, and psychological approach to training sessions as well as the game itself. The following suggestions should be useful in helping you prepare for the fall season.

Only you can determine the type of season you would like to have. Dedication and hard work will undoubtedly improve your chances to become a better player. The level of success of this program is directly related to the dedication and work ethic of you the player.

Conditioning Guidelines

  • Play as often as you can. There is no substitute for playing the game. Call your friends and play a pick up game. Playing 1 v. 1 or 2 v. 2 with your friends is a great idea. A phone list of potential players will be mailed this summer.
  • Soccer is a game that demands short fast sprints combined with running over a long period. Your approach to conditioning should be similar. Take a short jog combined with stints of sprinting some days. And on other days develop your speed by doing several 30-50 yd. sprints.
  • The worst thing you can do prior to try-outs is not prepare. You will receive a summer workout packet that is to be used as a guideline for self-training. It will contain information on how to train physically as well as technically with the ball. I must stress how important it is to come fit to try-outs. During the summer your goal should be to put at least 1,000 touches on the soccer ball each day.

Camps and Summer League
There are a number of camps offered to players in the immediate area throughout the summer. I highly recommend attending minimum of one camp throughout the summer. If you would like more information on camps please e-mail me at: spcamps@yahoo.com
If there are any questions or concerns feel free to phone me at my home number.
Have a great summer!

Thanks,
Coach Lam
